Cannabis Health and Safety Legislation

The links below provide an overview of legislation dealing with the regulation of cannabis and its use across the federal and provincial jurisdictions. The federal Cannabis Act came into force on October 17, 2018. Provinces and territories are responsible for regulating how cannabis is distributed and sold within their province or territory, including:
Who is permitted to sell cannabis online and in retail locations
Where sales locations are allowed
Specific requirements for cannabis sellers
Provinces and territories can also add additional restrictions, including:
Increasing the minimum age for consumption or purchase
Lowering allowable limits for possession of cannabis
How to legally transport cannabis
Restrictions where one can use cannabis
Additional requirements for any personal cultivation of cannabis plants
Workplaces are responsible for knowing what is legal in their province or territory as well as any affecting worksites in other jurisdictions and employees when working in another jurisdiction.
